Remember how nothing but bad news was surrounding the Wisconsin Badgers football program? That's no longer the case, as head coach Luke Fickell and his staff have been absolutely crushing it out on the recruiting trail.
This past weekend, Fickell brought in multiple transfer portal targets for their official visits, with several commitments being announced. On Monday morning, quarterback Danny O'Neil made things official with the Badgers. With him on board, the assumption was that he'd be QB1 for 2025.
However, don't forget that Maryland QB transfer Billy Edwards Jr. was also in town for his official. According to 247Sports' Chris Hummer, Edwards was supposed to visit Michigan this week, but that trip is now off. On top of that, Pete Nakos and Steve Wiltfong have put in predictions for UW to land him. Whoa:
Wisconsin is now predicted to sign Maryland QB transfer Billy Edwards Jr.
The fact that analysts now think Edwards will be Wisconsin-bound AND he canceled his visit to Ann Arbor sure is pretty telling. Soon enough, he could end up making an announcement as well, but we're not going to get too ahead of ourselves.
Should Edwards announce for the Badgers, which we're also now expecting, it would give Fickell his fourth QB addition from the offseason. As members of the 2025 signing class, both Carter Smith and Landyn Locke put the pen to paper with the Badgers.
The extra talent for the QBs room sure is great, especially with Braedyn Locke and Tyler Van Dyke deciding to enter the portal. With both of them leaving town, you knew that Fickell was going to be aggressive in the portal to get some help for the offense. Luckily, O'Neil is already locked in and big news on Edwards could be coming sooner rather than later as well.
Note: It has since been reported by 247's Jackie Franciulli that Edwards is on a visit to Virginia. This could end up being a battle between the Cavs and Badgers for him.
