Wisconsin QB Braedyn Locke sends message to haters who want him benched
In recent weeks, we don't have to tell you that things haven't gone according to plan on offense for the Wisconsin Badgers. Luke Fickell has clearly been frustrated with the aerial attack, as quarterback Braedyn Locke has looked sluggish.
His pick-six vs. Penn State wiped away any hopes of an upset win in Madison. Then, his two interceptions against Iowa in the 42-10 loss were infuriating to watch. Locke just hasn't gotten the job done, but that doesn't mean his confidence is wavering.
While speaking to the media this week, the signal-caller was of course asked about facing No. 1 Oregon and the challenges the Ducks defense will provide. He also made it quite clear that he thinks he's no question the right man to lead the offense out onto the field for this game - and for the rest of the season.
Wisconsin Badgers QB Braedyn Locke believes he's the 'guy to lead this team'
Due to his rough play this season, countless Wisconsin supporters have been calling for Fickell or Phil Longo to send Locke to the bench in favor of 4-star freshman Mabrey Mettauer. However, Longo said the plan is to keep rocking with Locke and that Mattauer isn't quite ready just yet.
This makes sense, as the last thing this program would want to do is throw Mettauer into the mix for his first career start being against the best team in the country. However, Locke simply has to pick up his level of play and he needs to do it fast.
He has thrown at least one interception in six consecutive contests. He has to take care of the football against Oregon, otherwise it could end up being a long night for the Badgers. Locke will start this game and look to prove his doubters wrong. It won't be easy, especially with Oregon in town, but he has no doubt in his mind that he can still deliver for Fickell and Co.
