The Wisconsin Badgers men's basketball team has caught some flak in recent years, as the lack of success in regard to landing top in-state talent has grown to be an issue of sorts. On one hand, fans are pleased that head coach Greg Gard has continued to seek out and find under-the-radar, star-level talent in the transfer portal. On the other hand, fans have grown frustrated, as the Badgers have consistently lost out on All-American and even NBA-level talent that is sitting in their own state.

That frustration has only continued to grow, as Wisconsin has already lost out on the two top in-state recruits of the wildly acclaimed 2027 recruiting class, losing one to Iowa State, which has become a familiar foe. However, there is still plenty of talent left on the board in the class, one of whom, Jalen Brown, will be headed back to Madison for yet another visit this weekend.

There isn't an official number on how many times Brown has been to campus, as him residing in the state of Wisconsin allows for him to make routine visits to Madison. However, it has become clear, no matter the amount of visits, that the Badgers are in heavy pursuit of the 6-foot-4 guard, and for good reason.

Advanced Skillset

Brown is fresh off of a stellar junior year at Wauwatosa West High School, a year in which he averaged 20.5 points, 7.2 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 2.9 steals a game, doing so whilst shooting 46.3% from the field and 37.6% from three. Brown has a rare blend of plus positional length and elite shot creation ability, allowing him to be one of the most dynamic offensive threats in the entire country.

Along with that, he has proven to be able to work both on and off the ball, operating mostly as Wauwatosa West's point guard last season. Along with that, Brown is aggressive at the point of attack, constantly getting his hands on the ball and creating havoc for opposing offenses.

He then followed up his impressive junior year with a great start to the AAU season, playing well enough to earn an invite to the P32 Showcase. This success means both good and bad things for Wisconsin, as obviously, the Badgers are interested in his talent. But more national recognition means more schools calling Brown up in hopes of bringing him to their campus.

With all that in mind, the recruiting process for him is going to be a treacherous one, but if Wisconsin can manage to land Brown, it will mean great things for the long-term outlook of the program.
