Wisconsin's head coach, Greg Gard, was among the many college scouts in attendance last week to check out a hoops showcase featuring many of the top in-state players. He personally attended for many of the best players in the state, even some who have yet to receive an offer from the Badgers.
Gard was probably mostly there to keep tabs on Donovan Davis, a 4-star 2027 recruit from Kaukauna who is considered one of the best players in the 2027 class and easily one of the best in the state as a junior. However, he stayed around to check out other rising players like Deuce McDuffie, Jack Kohnen, and Zavier Zens. His staff is also checking out many other in-state players.

“I really enjoyed the time spent with Coach Gard on the visit. He is a great guy, and fun to talk to.” Wisco Lutheran star Zavier Zens talks Wisconsin, growing recruitment and much more #Badgers

Zavier Zens, Deuce McDuffie, and Jack Kohnen are all currently unranked prospects. Zens is the only senior in that group and is in the recruiting class of 2026. Wisconsin has yet to extend an offer to him, but there's mutual interest, according to Nick Osen of 24/7 Sports. He's someone that Wisconsin may end up bringing in with a similar idea as Jack Janicki a year ago. A preferred walk-on with the opportunity to earn minutes.
McDuffie and Kohnen are both fast-rising juniors who are picking up more interest as the year goes along. According to 24/7 Sports, McDuffie currently holds two offers, while Kohnen has three offers, including from Iowa State and Marquette. Wisconsin has yet to offer either recruit, but since they are in-state, the Badgers are keeping a close eye on them.
As the summer circuit gets going, Greg Gard and his staff will be popping up around the country, keeping tabs on their known recruits and any future ones that they would like to bring to Madison.
