Wisconsin still has a lot to prove on the field and don't even have enough wins yet to be in a bowl. A hot start has led them to land in a ton of projections. Finding two more wins for a team that just beat Penn State and Michigan State in back-to-back weeks shouldn't be a problem. But now the question is, how high can they rise.
The following is a list of eight projections for where Wisconsin lands in a bowl and only two happen to be predicting the same bowl game. That's wild and there are some that see Wisconsin winning 8+ games while others are landing at six.
CBS Sports - Duke's Mayo Bowl
CBS Sports predicts that Wisconsin will be headed to Duke's Mayo Bowl against the Duke Blue Devils.
This one is famous for the winner being drenched in mayonnaise, and there are still vivid images in my brain of PJ Fleck having it poured on him two years ago. It's not a bad bowl, but it's not a great bowl. It's an invite bowl, and sometimes it gets wonky with who's in the mix. Last season, it was Wake Forest that had eight wins versus Mississippi State, which only had five. The Demon Deacons won 43-29.
ESPN: Mark Schlabach - Pinstripe Bowl
ESPN's Mark Schlabach predicts that Wisconsin will be invited to the Bad Boys Pinstripe Bowl.
Not the best bowl to get an invite to; this is one of those that typically is a couple of six-win teams taking on each other. Last year, it was 6-6 Penn State versus 7-5 Clemson Tigers. The Nittany Lions won with a final score of 22-10. The one cool part about it, it's at Yankee Stadium in New York.
ESPN: Kyle Bonagura - ReliaQuest Bowl
Kyle Bonagura has Wisconsin flying a little bit higher than his colleague Mark Schlabach as Bonagura predicts Wisconsin in the Reliaquest Bowl against the Florida Gators.
This isn't a New Year's Six bowl or a College Football Playoff bowl, but it is probably one of the bowls that is just under that. It's a bowl the good teams play in that just missed those opportunities. So Bonagura is predicting the Badgers will continue to win.
Sports Illustrated - Duke’s Mayo Bowl
SI is more on the level of CBS Sports. Not quite believing in the early success of Wisconsin, but definitely thinks that Luke Fickell and his squad will be worthy of a bowl. Read above about Duke's Mayo Bowl.
College Football News - Cactus Bowl
The College Football News has the Badgers playing in the Cactus Bowl. This is the tier of "a bowl is a bowl," and it's not that great. This is the bowl the Minnesota Golden Gophers played in last season against Jason Eck's New Mexico Lobos.
On3: Brett McMurphy - Music City Bowl
McMurphy is a bit higher in Wisconsin, too, and thinks that the Badgers will land in the Music City Bowl against the Texas A&M Aggies. Last season, this bowl was a face-off between two eight-win teams. Illinois came out on top over the Tennessee Volunteers 30-28.
RotoWire - Sun Bowl
The Sun Bowl is also a pretty elite bowl projection by RotoWire and one in which eight- or nine-win teams are usually on the list. Last season it was two eight-win teams: Arizona State vs. the Duke Blue Devils. So, getting projected into this bowl is a good sign that writers think the Badgers have eight wins in them this season.
Athlon Sports - Birmingham Bowl
Finally, there's the Athlon Sports projection of the Birmingham Bowl. Meh. A pretty lame bowl, usually filled with G6 teams.
