The Wisconsin Badgers had a terrible day watching the Iowa Hawkeyes walk all over them for four quarters. It was ugly, terrible, and downright embarrassing. Yet, somehow, the Badgers and Luke Fickell will be coming back with a win. A recruiting win, on a day they were boatraced, somehow Fickell and the Badgers convinced 4-star wide receiver Dontay Tyson to flip from Washington to Wisconsin.
There are a few layers to this story. The first and most prominent is: how did Wisconsin get this sort of a flip on a day in which their offense scored zero points? What is Wisconsin doing on offense that would make a wide receiver of all positions decide to want to be a Badger? That's the most obvious, and of course there's NIL money involved and a pipeline that Fickell is building, but it's a wild day to decide to be a Badger.
A day in which Wisconsin was steamrolled by their rival. But the other layer may help with some of the context and decision-making for Tyson. The jokes about why he chose today are all over the comment section, from "Does this man not own a TV?" to the more serious, "He saw this Wisconsin offense and thought, 'They need me!'"

Wisconsin is building an Arizona pipeline and Dontay Tyson is another great example of this

Tyson is a 4-star play-making wide receiver from Peoria, Arizona. He's another player who found his way from the desert to Madison. He's now the fourth commit from the state in the 2027 class, with a couple of others in the 2028 class following him.
He is known for his speed, which isn't surprising considering he is also a high school track star. He can fly around the football field and can take the top off the defense. Tyson adds another element to this recruiting class, and it's now one of the top-rated classes.
Tyson is the 24th commit in the class that's now ranked No. 22 in 2027. That's the silver lining for the Badgers after suffering a big loss to Iowa. That there are still recruits willing to come to Wisconsin to help this team get over the hump. This loss to Iowa sucks, but adding Tyson takes a slight sting off. Is there hope in the future? Hopefully, if Fickell continues to be the coach, hopefully a class of this caliber will help come in and change the trajectory the Badgers have against Iowa.
Tyson may not have had a lot to watch in this game against Iowa, but the excitement of what he can bring to Wisconsin is at least something. Fickell has to find a way to change the fact that Iowa clearly has his number every single year.
