Wisconsin volleyball is one of the best programs in the country. They finished the season ranked in the top 10, closing out at No. 7. The Badgers are losing a few of their better players to graduation and have worked to retool this offseason by adding in four new highly touted freshmen. Head coach Kelly Sheffield has also looked into the portal and added one of the best outside hitters in the Big Ten and the nation, Mimi Colyer.
Mimi Colyer has decided to transfer from Oregon to Wisconsin.
Colyer was one of the best outside hitters last season for the Oregon Ducks and has decided to find a new home only hours after the Duck's coach, Matt Ulmer, decided to take the head coach position at Kansas. The Ducks were also a top-10 team under Ulmer's leadership and made a NCAA tournament run. Colyer was instrumental in that success.
Colyer finished the season ranked 38th in points scored, and only senior Sarah Franklin of the Badgers ranked higher on the Wisconsin team. She had 90 blocks in 2024, and 83 block assists to go along with 39 aces and 457 kills on the season. One of her most impressive games came against UCLA; some of those highlights are below:
Colyer was a unanimous All-Big Ten First Team selection, along with her impressive stats. She will immediately fill a void left by graduating seasons as Wisconsin looks to make another NCAA tournament run and even look for a Big Ten championship and a national championship in volleyball. They want to hang another national championship banner they last hung in 2021. While they continue to have success and appearances in the final fours and elite eights, the goal is another banner.
Colyer will add the immediate help that the Badgers need for 2025 and it's a massive addition for Sheffield and Wisconsin Volleyball.
