The Wisconsin women's basketball team finally had its first road Big Ten game under new coach Robin Pingeton. In New York, to take on the gritty and tough Rutgers Scarlet Knights. It went terribly to start, Wisconsin went into the second quarter losing 28-9. They trailed by 21 at one point, and it looked like it was going to be a repeat of the Maryland game, in which Wisconsin got bullied.
Instead, the Wisconsin women's basketball team pulled off the second-largest comeback win in program history in a historic march from a 21-point deficit. How?
The team stuck together and almost flipped the script in the second, having a 21-8 winning margin in the quarter. The score at half-time was 36-30 in favor of the Scarlet Knights. The Lady Badgers would need to find a good second half. Yet the third quarter was back-and-forth and ended in favor of Rutgers, 18-17. However, Wisconsin dug deep and found a gutsy fourth quarter, battling back with steals, big blocks, and another huge quarter, 23-9, to make the final score 70-63.
The Badgers had their second largest comeback win in program history.
The Badgers' largest lead of the game was the final margin. They didn't lead at all until the very end of the game, but that's the only time it actually matters.
Kyrah Daniels was the star of the game with 20 points and some huge clutch free throws down the stretch. She went 4-6 from the line but made those four free throws in the final minutes of the game. Destiny Howell was also a huge key to the comeback, scoring 16 points, a dagger three-point shot, and an important steal. Gift Uchenna also had three really important blocks and 10 points with 9 rebounds.
The Badgers head back home to face Penn State on January 4th at 1pm on the Big Ten Network.
