The day started with a close one in the 8-9 matchup as the Michigan Wolverines edged out the Northwestern Wildcats 72-70 to hold seed, needing overtime to get the job done.

Three Northwestern players combined to score 60 of the Wildcats 70 points, as Tre Demps led the way with 21, Alex Olah added 20 and Bryant McIntosh scored 19. Nathan Taphorn added six points off the bench.

Michigan edged out the Wildcats by two points in overtime, and were led by 21 points from Duncan Robinson, with Zak Irvin adding 19 points and Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman adding 14 points.

The second game of the day featured another close contest as the 12-seed Illinois Fighting Illini pulled off an upset in the afternoon game, taking down fifth-seeded Iowa 68-66.

The Illini, who defeated Minnesota by 33 points on Wednesday, kept the momentum going with a win over the Hawkeyes. Illinois led by double-digits in the second half, but Iowa fought back to tie up the game at 66-all with under two minutes to play.

Illinois’ Malcolm Hill hit the final shot of the game with just over a minute to play, and the Illini hung on for the victory.

Jalen Coleman-Lands paced the Illini with 17 points, with Kendrick Nunn adding 16 and Maverick Morgan adding 14 more. Peter Jok and Jarrod Uthoff combined for 50 points for the Hawkeyes, with Jok scoring 29 and Uthoff adding 21 in the loss.

Iowa picked up its fifth loss in its last five games, and the Illini advance to take on the fourth-seeded Purdue Boilermakers.

Game three of the day was again a close contest, as the 10-seed Penn State Nittany Lions kept it close with the seven-seed Ohio State Buckeyes until late in the game.

Penn State was forced to foul to attempt to catch up down the line, and Ohio State hit enough free throws and held on for a 79-75 win.
