What’s in store for Wisconsin Badgers athletics this week as we dive into a new month?

Men’s Basketball

The Wisconsin Badgers are fresh off back-to-back road losses at Ohio State and Michigan State, but thanks to some help from around the conference still just one game back of Purdue and in sole possession of second place.

More from Badger of Honor

The Badgers have now lost four and five and a team that once was as high as No. 7 in the AP poll might not be in the top 25 come next week. The good news for Wisconsin is that they return home to take on a surging and much-improved Iowa Hawkeyes team before hosting the Minnesota Golden Gophers who are winners of seven straight and sit just one game behind the Badgers.

Looking ahead:

  • Thursday, March 2: Iowa Hawkeyes (16-13, 8-8) at Wisconsin Badgers (22-7, 11-5)
    • Location: Kohl Center – Madison, WI
    • Time: 8:00 pm CT
    • TV: ESPN

This will be the lone matchup between the Badgers and Hawkeyes this season. Wisconsin won their only meeting last season on the road when Iowa was ranked in the top ten nationally.

  • Sunday, March 5: Minnesota Golden Gophers (22-7, 10-6) at Wisconsin Badgers (22-7, 11-5)
    • Location: Kohl Center – Madison, WI
    • Time: 5:00 pm CT
    • TV: Big Ten Network

Perhaps the Badgers’ best win to date, a road win at Minnesota, the Badgers will have to face the red hot Gophers in the regular season finale and on Senior Night. The Gophers are currently winners of seven straight and are still in consideration for a Big Ten title if all things fall into place.

Men’s Hockey

After splitting the border battle rivalry this past weekend against Minnesota, the Badgers still find themselves in second trailing the Gophers by just three points. Their difficult stretch continues this weekend when they visit Happy Valley to take on the Penn State Nittany Lions, a team that swept the Badgers earlier in the year in Madison.

Penn State currently trails Wisconsin by five points in the standings, meaning a sweep of the Badgers would catapult the Nittany Lions into second place and give them a leg up in the NCAA Tournament at-large consideration. A huge series upcoming this weekend.

Women’s Hockey

The lady Badgers will continue their run in the WCHA Tournament this weekend as the No. 1 seed after defeating No. 8 Minnesota State-Mankato this past week in two straight games, outscoring the Mavericks 13-0.

Wisconsin will now head to the WCHA Final Face, or conference final four, to face the No. 4 seed North Dakota. The first set of games will be played on Saturday, with the championship the following day on Sunday. The winner of Wisconsin/North Dakota will face the winner of Minnesota/Minnesota-Duluth.

The Wisconsin Badgers women’s basketball team will also begin Big Ten tournament action this week as they take on Rutgers on Wednesday. You can find out all the information for the event here.
