Wisconsin Football Countdown: No. 17, Allen Langford

As the countdown to the first Wisconsin football game of the season continues, Badger of Honor is taking a look at Badgers by the numbers, checking in on a different Badger or Badgers players who wore the number corresponding with the remaining days until the Badgers head to Texas to take on the Alabama Crimson Tide Saturday, Sept. 5.

Next up in our countdown, signifying 17 days until college football is back, is Allen Langford.

A Badgers cornerback from 2005 to 2008, Langford was a four-year starter at Wisconsin.

He ranks among Wisconsin’s best all-time in terms of cover corners, racking up top-10 career numbers in multiple categories.

Langford is seventh all time in UW history with 34 career passes defended, and is tied with Jeff Messenger for sixth all time with 26 career pass breakups. His 13 pass breakups in 2008 alone are tied with Troy Vincent for sixth all-time at UW for a single season.

Langford was a first team All-Big Ten selection in 2008, and was the Badgers Jimmy Demetral Team MVP award winner in 2008 as well. He also took home the Jay Seiler Coaches Appreciation Award in 2006.

Langford went undrafted in the 2009 NFL Draft, and while he didn’t make it to the NFL, he has continued working in athletics.

Langford is currently the Director of Performance Coaches at Athletic Body Mechanics, an organization that works with athletes from the prep through the professional level.

• No Badgers player currently wears No. 17.

Who wore No. 17 last?

• Freshman wide receiver George Rushing last wore No. 17 for the Badgers in 2014. He switched to No. 87 this offseason, and figures to be in the running to see an expanded role as a sophomore in 2015.
