Special teams are an important part of football. A lot of times, it makes the difference between winning and losing close games. Right Bama fans? Wisconsin has one of the best kickers in the country, Rafael Gaglianone. Last year he was good, and this year, he will flirt with the elite status.

Alabama’s kicker, Adam Griffiths, is terrible. Like, Kyle French bad.

On the flip side, Alabama has the best punter in the country in JK Scott. I know it is rare that a punter in called dominant, but Scott is deserving of the title. He should be able to single handedly help the Crimson Tide win the field position battle. And Wisconsin’s punter is Drew Myers. Every time he drops back to punt, my heart pounds. Which shouldn’t happen on PUNTS! He’s so bad that he was benched in place of 3rd string quarterback Bart Houston.

Edge: Draw (3-3)

Coaching

Look, I don’t like Nick Saban. Actually, most people don’t. Unless you are a Bama fan, he is impossible to like. But even I have to admit; Saban is a very good football coach. He has 4 championships and is a sure fire Hall of Famer. As unlikeable as he is, the man can coach.

Dave Aranda is one of the best defensive coordinators in college football, and head coach Paul Chryst is a great offensive mind. However, Chryst has losses to Youngstown State, Akron, and worst of all, Iowa on his head-coaching resume. Even though those losses occurred Pittsburgh, he still has a lot to prove in terms of his head coaching ability.

Edge: Alabama (4-3)

So Alabama wins. But only by the slightest of margins. Which is the point. Alabama is not as far superior to Wisconsin as the general consensus thinks. Wisconsin has a real shot in the game. They have a lot of players that are just as good, if not better, than Alabama’s players at their respective positions. They certainly will not rollover. I am not saying Wisconsin will win, but it will be a much closer game than people think.
