Wisconsin is hot off five straight wins over Michigan State, Penn State, Indiana, Illinois and Ohio State, and next up for the Badgers are the 13-11 Cornhuskers, who at 5-6 in Big Ten Conference play sit in ninth place in the conference.

The Badgers, at 14-9 overall and 6-4 in conference play, are a game and a half ahead of the Cornhuskers. More importantly, the current win streak for the Badgers has Wisconsin in sixth place in the Big Ten, just three and a half games out of first place.

A win against Nebraska would put the Badgers in a good position heading into top-10 matchups against Maryland and Michigan State, the next two games on the Badgers schedule.

Wisconsin is led by Nigel Hayes and his 17.1 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. Hayes has been the Badgers workhorse during their winning streak, and has scored in double-digits in every game in 2016 except an 8-point performance in a rout of Rutgers on January 2.

Bronson Koenig, who is averaging 13.4 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game, has been better in the Badgers last two wins over Ohio State and Illinois after struggling the previous two games. Ethan Happ continues to be the Badgers third option offensively, and the big is scoring 12.3 points per game while adding in 8.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game.

Wisconsin’s bench and role players have come alive during the winning streak, as we’ve seen Vitto Brown, Zak Showalter, Jordan Hill, Alex Illikainen and Khalil Iverson all contributing in a number of ways.

On the Nebraska side, the Cornhuskers will be dealt a significant blow as starting forward Shavon Shields will not play or even travel to Wisconsin after leaving the court on a gurney during Nebraska’s 83-67 victory over Rutgers last Saturday. Shields suffered an apparent head injury in the victory, and was entered into Nebraska’s concussion protocol. On the season, Shields is second on the team in points (15.7 per game) and rebounds (5.0 per game) and leads the team in assists (2.9 per game).

The Huskers leading scorer is junior guard Andrew White, who averages 17.2 points and a team-high 6.2 rebounds per game. Junior guard Tai Webster averages 10.0 points per game.
