Time is running out on the Wisconsin Badgers and head coach Greg Gard has to figure out just how to get the momentum back on track heading into NCAA Tournament.

Greg Gard is a good head coach that is undoubtedly going through his roughest stretch in his brief head coaching career with the Wisconsin Badgers. February was absolutely brutal for this team and now he has the daunting task of trying to figure out how to get the train back on track before the tournament starts.

Some might argue it might be a little too late for the slumping Badgers. Momentum might be long gone from this team heading into postseason play.

Gard has to know that it’s starting to unravel. Wisconsin has lost five of its last six games, all to unranked opponents and to teams that are fighting for their March Madness lives. And it has been tough to pin point exactly what the problem is considering what has been ailing them in losses has not been the same each game. If the offense is clicking, the defense is playing mediocre. If the defense is playing top-notch, the offense comes away with empty possessions, bad shots, and costly turnovers.

I get that Gard cannot be on the floor and not responsible for the bad shots, poor defense, and turnovers. He has to lean on veterans like Bronson Koenig and Nigel Hayes. Those two players need to be the ones to figure it out on the floor.

It has been very uncharacteristic to not only see the Badgers go through a bad slump like this, but just the way they have been losing. It’s been a long time since Wisconsin has played a complete game where both offense and defense were firing on all cylinders.

This does not fall on the shoulders of Greg Gard. Hayes, Koenig, and others need to start playing up to their potential. But it’s also Gard’s responsibility to put his team in a position to get back in the win column.

The Badgers host the hot Minnesota Golden Gophers on Sunday. If they are not careful, they will be run out of the Kohl Center. The Badgers, who were on top of the Big Ten with a two game lead at one point, could find themselves fall to a six seed in the conference tournament.
