Wisconsin softball has struggled at home while thriving on road or neutral environments this season.
The Badgers are 27-10 overall but just 2-6 in eight home games this season. Badger softball is 10-2 on the road and 15-2 in neutral site games. Wisconsin is currently in seventh place in conference play with a 6-8 mark in Big Ten games. That is admittedly a small sample size, with just eight games out of 37 total at home. Wisconsin has five home games left this season and six on the road. The Big Ten Conference Tournament will be hosted by Michigan on May 11-13, 2017.

Season statistics indicate the difference in Home v Away performance for Wisconsin softball. Thus far, Wisconsin’s offense is far more potent away from Madison on a per game average. The Badgers limit opposing bats better away from Madison as well.
Home
- Wisconsin Runs Scored: 29 (3.63/game)
- Runs Allowed: 52 (6.5/game, inflated by Minnesota’s flattering scoreline on Wednesday)
- Wisconsin Batting Average: .242
- Opponent Batting Average: .326
- Wisconsin Runners Left On Base: 67 (8.38/game)
- Wisconsin Batter Strikeouts: 46 (5.75/game)
Away
- Wisconsin Runs Scored: 201 (6.93/game)
- Runs Allowed: 67 (2.31/game)
- Wisconsin Batting Average: .313
- Opponent Batting Average: .224
- Wisconsin Runners Left On Base: N/A for full season
- Wisconsin Batter Strikeouts: 134 (4.62/game)
Its worth repeating that the Badgers have played just 8/37 games in Madison so its not close to an equal sample size in Home v Away. Minnesota is 40-3 on the season, first in the conference, and ranked #5 nationally. Wisconsin hosts Michigan for three games over the weekend, and the Wolverines are 32-9-1 overall and second in the Big Ten. Wisconsin has also played Nebraska and Iowa at home, and the Huskers and Hawkeyes are fifth and sixth in Big Ten play respectively. So quality of opposition obviously also helps explain the difference in Home v Away production.
