Wisconsin Badger Athletes earn Accolades
Multiple Wisconsin Badger athletes earned recognition and honors from the Big Ten Conference and individual teams
Wednesday was a day of honors for several Badgers in volleyball, softball, and men’s hockey.
Volleyball: It is a virtual lock that Tionna Williams‘ essay on her summer vacation will be top of the class. She will be touring Europe with some other Big Ten volleyball players playing volleyball, doing community service, and studying a little foreign language.
"Wisconsin junior middle blocker Tionna Williams will join 13 other Big Ten volleyball student-athletes to travel to the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Italy and Austria from June 17-28, 2017."
Williams was named to the “Big Ten All-Freshman” team in 2015. She was a 2016 All Big Ten performer last fall. She ranked 3rd on the Badgers in Points, 4th in Kills, and 4th in hitting percentage (2nd among regular players).

Softball: In advance of the Big Ten Tournament, the conference announced its awards and honors. The Badgers were well represented on the All-Big Ten 2nd Team and got a place on the All-Big Ten defensive team.
"Freshman Kaitlyn Menz, junior Brooke Wyderski and senior Chloe Miller were all named to the All-Big Ten second team, while junior Kelsey Jenkins was named to the All-Defensive team and senior Sara Novak was recognized as the team’s Big Ten Sportsmanship honoree. The four honorees tie for the most the program has ever had in a single season."
Wisconsin (32-14, 11-11) will take on Iowa (19-31, 9-14) in the first round of the conference tournament on Thursday with the first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. CST. Games are televised on the Big Ten Network.

Men’s Hockey: Badger men’s hockey announced that rising senior Cameron Hughes is named captain for the upcoming season. I’ll smother every instinct I have to make a Dead Poet’s Society reference here.
Hughes finished 3rd on the Badgers in points last season with seven goals, and a team-leading 25 assists. He totaled the 3rd most shots but was just 13th in shooting percentage. He also had a -7 in the +/- category for the season. However, he had a +6 rating good for 2nd on the Badgers during conference play.
Here’s hoping that Thursday can be as meritorious for Badger athletics.
