Wisconsin Badger women’s hockey announces its 2017-18 schedule

Wisconsin is home to perhaps the most dominant program in women’s hockey.  As Badger of Honor has reported, UW women’s hockey has proven its dominance at the conference,  national, and international level sending players to national teams.

The Badgers have a competitive slate on tap for the 2017-18 season for both conference and non-conference games.

More from Badger of Honor

Wisconsin travels east for a tournament in the Washington D.C. area and to New York state for a matchup against perennial power Cornell.

"[The Badgers] will play 24 conference games against their six WCHA opponents and 10 non-conference games. After playing one of the nation’s toughest schedules last year, UW will once again have a challenging slate as 10 of its’ 34 regular-season games will be against teams that played in last year’s NCAA tournament."

Wisconsin is 141-91-32 overall against teams ranked in the top 10.  That number is 26-10-8 over the last three seasons.  The Badgers are 64-80-20 in program history against teams in the top five.  That total is 9-9-4 over the last three seasons.

Per usual, the Badgers will have four total games (home-and-home) with both Minnesota and Minnesota-Duluth during conference play.

"The Badgers and Golden Gophers, who also made the 2017 NCAA Frozen Four, have combined to win the WCHA 13 times over the last 14 years."

Wisconsin has the all-time series edge against Minnesota Duluth with a 42-30-13 record in 85 meetings.  However, the Golden Gophers have a sizable advantage in the series history against the Badgers.  Wisconsin is just 30-48-11 in 89 total matchups between the rivals.

UW has four NCAA titles (2006, 2007, 2009, 2011) and seven WCHA titles (2006, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2015-2017).  Wisconsin lost in the NCAA Championship game three times (2017, 2012, 2008).

Next: Badgers to play Virginia in ACC Big Ten Challenge

The Badgers success has paid off at the box office.  From the 2006-07 seasons through the 2015-16 season, Wisconsin ranked 1st nationally in average attendance in 7/10 years and were 2nd the other three seasons.
