If the bitter taste of the last (two) Wisconsin basketball NCAA Tournament exits linger for you we have some good news.  You don’t have to wait until this fall to see Wisconsin basketball back in action.

Former Wisconsin basketball shooting guard Roy Boone is organizing a tournament at Madison College on June 15th featuring some current and present Wisconsin basketball stars.

According to Twitter, the event is free for spectators and will take place on June 15th with games on the hour at 6:00, 7:00, and 8:00 p.m.

The official roster list has some familiar names and perhaps some new names for even the most devoted Wisconsin basketball fans.

I have to admit I’ll be pulling for Team Torch in all likelihood.  That squad has multiple guys with connections (Roy Boone, Nimrod Hilliard, Steve Wooten) to my alma mater, Madison East High School.  As a proud Purgolder I’ll have to root for them.  Chris Hawkins is also on Team Torch and he attended my wife’s alma mater, Sun Prairie.

Team Hawks has Ethan Happ so he’s always fun to watch.  This will be the first chance to see if he shows any type of enhanced shooting touch since last we saw him.  That squad also has Jordan Taylor who is currently playing professionally in Israel.

Team Wesley has a pretty good combination of guards in Wesley Matthews and Zak Showalter.  That’s a pretty solid 3-and-D duet.  Team Bombers has Khalil Iverson who is always a threat to do something bouncy and fun.  He’s another guy I wouldn’t mind seeing unveil a new shooting stroke. Aleem Ford redshirted last year at Wisconsin so it would be fun to see him in game action.

For you Madison Memorial fans, Team Jaguars has some former Mr. Basketball’s in Keaton Nankivil and Jeronne Maymon.  Finally Team Magic has Charlie Thomas and Brevin Pritzl.  Nigel Hayes has spoken previously about how Pritzl needs to shoot.  Thomas will have an opportunity to earn regular minutes next seasons with Hayes and Vitto Brown’s departures.

In total, this seems like a fun event to see some Wisconsin basketball both past and present.
