Honorable Mention: Jonathan Casillas

Linebacker, New York Giants-8th Season

Jonathan Casillas has been a journey man in the NFL after going undrafted in 2009. He first signed with the New Orleans Saints. Casillas has been with four different teams during his time in the NFL. He joins the list now that he has found a good home with the Giants.

He recorded 3 sacks in the 2011 season which was his second in the NFL and with the Saints. Casillas played one more season in New Orleans before he played a season and a half with Tampa Bay.

He finished the 2014 season with New England. Casillas joined the New York Giants where he’s spent the last two seasons. He has really found his niche playing alongside the G-Men linebackers.

Of course it helps Casillas career prospects that seemingly every year NFL draft experts consider linebacker a major need.  Yet without fail, the Giants never seem to invest much draft capital in the position.

Casillas put together his first full season in the NFL in 2016. He has recorded 3.5 sacks in two seasons with the Giants. He was second on the team with 93 total tackles last season. He enters the 2017 season first on the depth chart at WLB. Expect Casillas to be on the leaderboard of the New York Giant’s tackle list again this season.
