Scott Tolzien Has a Rough Start for Indianapolis
Former Wisconsin Badger QB Scott Tolzien has a forgettable outing as starting quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. The LA Rams hammered the Colts 46-9 in week one action.
With Andrew Luck still out of service, ex-Badger QB Scott Tolzien got the nod to start for the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. The LA Rams were without star defensive lineman Aaron Donald.
It didn’t end up mattering in the slightest. Tolzien and the Colts were blitzed by the Rams and lost huge in front of literally dozens of fans.
On the Colts opening possession two runs by Frank Gore set up 3rd-and-10. Tolzien dropped back for his first pass attempt of the season.

He threw a little late, floating a sort of corner route for TY Hilton that was easily undercut and intercepted and run back for at touchdown by Trumaine Johnson.
In fairness, Tolzien responded nicely to the early error. He guided the Colts on a 9-play 73-yard drive that took 4:49 seconds. The drive stalled at the Rams 1-yard-line and the Colts settled for a field goal.
However, Indianapolis then went punt-fumble (not Tolzien)-punt-turnover on downs to close the first half. Unfortunately for Tolzien, the second half started similarly to the first. The Colts missed a field goal on its first possession.
But he threw another interception that was returned for a touchdown on the second drive of the second half. This time Lamarcus Joyner of the Rams did the honors.
Tolzien stared down Hilton and Joyner read his eyes and undercut the ball from the slot position.
Indianapolis punted on its next two trips before Tolzien was benched with LA leading 37-3. New acquisition Jacoby Brissett guided a 5-play 84-yard touchdown drive in his first action under center for the Colts.
Ultimately, Tolzien finished the day 9/18 for 128 passing yards and those two interceptions. It’s still unclear when Luck will be ready to go for Indianapolis.

But Tolzien may lose his starting spot if Brissett picks up enough of the playbook in the next week. The Colts host Arizona next Sunday.
