Wisconsin football continues moving up the national college football polls.  Lets see how a few upsets at the top improved the Badger’s position.

Wisconsin football has hung around the top ten of the national polls since the pre-season.  With five wins in five tries the Badgers hold steady at the top of the college football polls.

But a couple of highly ranked home sides dropped disappointing results on Saturday.  So lets see how that changes the polling landscape

This week, #3 Oklahoma stumbled losing at home to unranked Iowa State.  Meanwhile, #7 Michigan lost at home to unranked Michigan State.

As a result, there is some changes at the top and it helps Wisconsin.  The Badgers crept forward again moving up two places in both the Associated Press (AP) and Coaches Poll.

Bucky now sits at #7 in the AP Poll (1,127 ranking points) and #6 in the Coaches Poll (1,243 ranking points).  The Badgers are 65 points behind TCU in the AP Poll (33 ahead of Washington State) but are 14 points ahead of the Horned Frogs in the Coaches Poll.

Meanwhile, the top five appears impenetrable barring a big upset.  Thus far, Alabama, Clemson, Penn State, Georgia, and Washington have looked pretty good.  So big Wisconsin wins alone won’t be enough to jump the rankings unless one of that quintet falls.

Of course, Washington still faces Washington State (#8 AP, #9 Coaches) during the regular season and Penn State faces The Ohio State (#9 AP, #8 Coaches).

Michigan State (4-1, 2-0) enters both polls perhaps under-ranked at #21 in the AP Poll and #22 in the Coaches Poll.  Michigan tumbles down 10 spots to #17 in the AP and falls nine in the Coaches Poll to #16.

Another week of polling some more incremental progress for Wisconsin football.  The Badgers are still the lone Big Ten West side in the national rankings.
