Wisconsin Football lands commit from Dean Engram
Dean Engram committed to Wisconsin football Friday.
Wisconsin football picked up another commit in the class of 2019 Friday. Dean Engram, son of former Penn State Nittany Lion and NFL receiver Bobby Engram, chose the Badgers over his father’s alma mater. He visited Madison last weekend and he must have liked what he saw.
Engram is a three-star recruit who played cornerback and wide receiver at Gonzaga High School in Washington D.C. The Badgers beat out Penn State, Virginia Tech and others for his services. Engram will play cornerback for the Badgers.
Penn State was long thought to be the favorite for Engram due to his father’s incredible career there, but Wisconsin was more consistent with Engram. He did an interview with 247 Sports about his decision.
"“I chose Wisconsin because it literally checked all the boxes for me in terms of academics, playing style and culture. They were loyal to me throughout the entire process and that shows a lot about the entire coaching staff.”"
Engram joins James Williams as the second cornerback to commit to Wisconsin this week in the class of 2019. Defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard is clearly making the position a priority since the defensive backfield will be extremely inexperienced in 2018 and beyond. Leonhard, being a former safety himself, specializes in the defensive back position. If the recruits he has coming in can pan out, the Badgers will have one of the best secondaries in the Big Ten.

Wisconsin football continues to add to its impressive 2019 recruiting class with Engram. The Badgers’ class currently ranks 19th nationally on 247 Sports. It’s on track to be the highest rated recruiting class Wisconsin has had in years.
