Running Back

Commitments

Julius Davis – Menomonee Falls, WI (Menomonee Falls)

As with so many other positions in this class, Wisconsin hit the jackpot at running back with 3-star prospect Julius Davis.

Davis, the highest-rated recruit in the Badger State and the nation’s No. 33 running back, is the real deal. He’s a very physical back and excels at powering through the line of scrimmage between the tackles, but he’s no plodder: once he gets to that second level, Davis has legitimate explosiveness and big-play ability. With his talent and the chance to run behind a massive Wisconsin offensive line that shows no signs of falling from its place among the nation’s elite anytime soon, I see a future star in Davis.

However, his considerable talent is not the only reason why Davis is a very special piece to this class. The Menomonee Falls native also happens to be one of the group’s most vocal leaders, and has legitimate visions of making history by bringing a national championship to Madison.

Davis committed to Wisconsin last November, over just one other offer from Buffalo. Not too long after, programs such as LSU, Notre Dame, and USC got involved, but it was all for naught: Davis never once wavered in his commitment.

Davis is going to have a shot to come in a compete for snaps right away behind Doak Walker Award winner Jonathan Taylor. Garrett Groshek will likely continue to hold down his role as the third down back, but it should come down to Nakia Watson, Bradrick Shaw, and Davis as to who will fill Taiwan Deal’s role as JT’s primary backup next season.
