Wisconsin Badgers wish list for 2019
Don’t play a bowl game
This is tricky territory wishing to not play in a bowl game. However, only the best bowl games of next season will not be played during the 2019 calendar year, unless they’re College Football Playoff semi-final games.
If Wisconsin is going to really do something special, the only way they play a bowl game in 2019 means they’ll be competing for a national championship. The way the Playoff committee seems to be slanted towards keeping Big Ten teams out, it’ll take an undefeated season from Wisconsin, with likely two wins over Ohio State, to make it. I’m as optimistic as anybody, but even that’s a stretch. There’s no shame in year one of the Graham Mertz era in just playing in a New Year’s Six bowl game.
The next 12 months are sure to bring lots of ups and downs, but I have a feeling that when we get to 2020 we can look back on 2019 and say that it was a pretty great year for Wisconsin athletics. There are tons of stars in Cardinal and White and arrows are trending upwards. The Badgers are still one of America’s most consistent programs, both in football and basketball, and will make noise for the next 12 months.
When we finally do get to 2020 maybe we can set some even higher goals for the Badgers.
