Recruiting for the Wisconsin football team had been slow for the 2022 recruiting class. That is, up to about two weeks ago. All spring, the Badgers had one committed player in their upcoming class: quarterback Myles Burkett.

When the dead period officially ended at the beginning of June, the Wisconsin football team waste no time getting recruits in the door. Their efforts have paid off handsomely. In just the past couple of weeks, they have added six more commitments to the program, including defensive lineman, Curtis Neal.

Now, we can add one more name to the list: cornerback Avyonne Jones.

The Badgers have been targeting Jones for a while and stayed with it even when he was committed to Oklahoma St. He decommited from Oklahoma St. in May after being with them for about a month.

Since then, he’s gone on to visit Arizona, Colorado, Wisconsin, Cal, and finally Louisville over the weekend. There was always plenty of optimism that he would land with the Wisconsin football team in the end. Defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard continues to add to the secondary, pairing Jones with recent commit, A’Khoury Lyde at cornerback.

With Jones’ commitment, the Wisconsin football team now has eight committed players. According to 247Sports’ class calculator, Jones bumps the Badgers’ score from 102.50 (46th in the nation), to 113.36, which would push them up to 43rd in the country. That would put Wisconsin now ahead of Pitt, Nebraska, and Arizona.

They are also now 12th overall in the Big Ten. But before we start worrying about being near the bottom of the conference, there are still some big fish out there, including the four big in-state 4-stars, that would really give the Badgers a boost in the rankings. Adding those four alone would bump the Badgers up to 5th in the conference and 13th overall. There are still some big things in the works.

Paul Chryst and the Wisconsin football team are getting hot on the recruiting trail. We may be over 60 days away from kickoff, but there is still plenty to be excited about with the Wisconsin football team right now.
