The Early Signing Period is sneaking up on us and there's still some space left for the Wisconsin Badgers to fill for their 2025 class. Obviously, the main target on the board is four-star quarterback Carter Smith, who recently took an official visit to Madison.
Smith, once a Michigan verbal, is one of the top quarterbacks in the country. This appeared to be a battle between Florida State and Wisconsin, but FSU just picked up a QB commit earlier in the week, putting Luke Fickell and Co. in the driver's seat.
On Friday night, Smith had a playoff game for his high school in Florida. As he made his way to the field, though, he was spotted with a Wisconsin towel hanging from the back of his pants. Not only that, but thanks to reporter Alex Martin, we also saw Smith's high school playing 'Jump Around' at the end of the third quarter. Oh, really?
4-star QB Carter Smith is high on Wisconsin with a decision coming soon
Unless a new team jumps in late with an offer, it sure seems like the Badgers are in a great spot to land the prized quarterback. Smith was on campus for the showdown with No. 1 Oregon, a game the Badgers nearly pulled off an upset in. In the end, Wisconsin lost 16-13.
However, the energy in Madison was unreal, which made an impact on Smith and his family. Shortly after the trip, Smith's dad told 247Sports' Evan Flood that it felt like there was a 50-50 shot his son would play for Wisconsin, while adding that a visit to Florida State was on the way.
It looks like that trip to Tallahassee is now off the table with the Seminoles flipping Oklahoma quarterback pledge Kevin Sperry. Will this lead to Smith shutting down his recruitment soon and announcing for Wisconsin? Fans hope that's the case and they think him showcasing the W towel for his game is a sign of good things to come. We should find out soon what Smith decides.
