Former Wisconsin quarterback Tanner Mordecai may have just earned himself a permanent place on the San Francisco 49ers roster. He was exceptional in the final preseason game with a 124.8 passer rating. He was throwing dimes, using his legs, and was pushing hard to be the final quarterback on the roster. Which is exactly what 49er fans are calling for, QB3.

Mordecai went 10/13 for 103 yards and a touchdown. He also ran three times for 12 yards, including the beautiful clip above. He impressed 49ers fans, but the question is whether it's enough. He's been bounced in and out of the 49ers roster all offseason. In the past 20 days, San Francisco has waived him twice and signed him twice. He also appeared in one other preseason game in spotty action.

There's a lot to like about the former Wisconsin signal caller. He may not be NFL starter caliber, but he can hold his own as a backup and keep the offense running. If this is what he can do when he's been shuffled on and off the roster without fully knowing the playbook, imagine what he could do if he actually were instilled as the backup.

While the main starter is settled for the 49ers in Brock Purdy, and his backup is also pretty well entrenched, Mac Jones. There is an open competition for that final spot, and while it has appeared to be all of the preseason to be Kurtis Rourke or Carter Bradley. Rourke got injured and will be out for some time, and now Mordecai may have outplayed Bradley.

Roster cuts will be happening over the next couple of days, and it will be interesting to see if Mordecai did, in fact, do enough to earn the final spot.
