Luke Fickell and the Wisconsin Badgers have offered former San Diego State quarterback Danny O'Neil according to Chris Hummer of 247Sports. They will also have O'Neil in for an official visit to Madison this Saturday.
O'Neil started 11 games for the Aztecs as a true freshman, throwing for 2,181 yards with 12 touchdowns to six interceptions. A two-time Mountain West Freshman of the Week, the 6-foot, 195-pound quarterback will certainly have several suitors.
After losing Tyler Van Dyke, Braedyn Locke and Cole LaCrue to the transfer portal, the Badgers were almost certainly going to look for a transfer themselves. They've already been linked to Cal quarterback Fernando Mendoza, and now they'll host O'Neil this weekend. On3 has O'Neil ranked as the 17th best quarterback in the portal.
Wisconsin will host SDSU QB transfer Danny O'Neil for an official visit
Fickell recently hired new offensive coordiantor Jeff Grimes to lead the offense in 2025. Right now his quarterback room includes Mabrey Mettauer, and incoming freshmen Carter Smith and Landyn Locke. Having someone like O'Neil with a season of experience under his belt could be the safer, and more reliable option as Wisconsin navigates a daunting 2025 schedule.
Wisconsin's offense was anemic in 2024. and the Grimes hire along with a new quarterback will hopefully inject some life into the 2025 group. O'Neil would be a solid player, and one who still probably hasn't reached his peak. If all goes to plan on Saturday, the Badgers may have their quarterback of the future secured.
