Wisconsin has a potentially important basketball matchup looming next week against the BYU Cougars. It's a rematch of an NCAA Tournament game that knocked the Badgers out of the bracket last season. It's also Wisconsin's first quad-1 opponent of the season, but now BYU may be without one of its starters heading into the game after Kennard Davis Jr. was arrested on Thursday for DUI.

This is a big deal for not just Wisconsin's matchup but for Davis' future at BYU. Being arrested for DUI is a terrible mistake by Davis, but it could be even more costly, as he's a student at BYU. So drinking of any kind, much less becoming drunk and driving a vehicle, is a cause for expulsion from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints-operated university.

Davis isn't one of the stars for BYU, but he is a starter and has played 34 minutes and 20 minutes in the two games he's played in this season. He missed the game against Delaware due to a leg injury, and the Cougars struggled until the closing minutes.

Davis, the 6'6 wing, has 18 points in those two games with two rebounds and three assists. He's a factor in their rotation and was a big part of head coach Kevin Young's plans for the season.

His arrest came after Davis crashed his car, and as police responded to the scene, they found that Davis was over the legal limit and took him into custody. According to reports, he was then released to receive medical care for the minor injuries he received during the accident.

BYU has yet to say anything publicly about Kennard Davis Jr.'s DUI.
