Even a former Notre Dame QB is hyping up Wisconsin’s ‘gross’ Week 1 jerseys

The uniforms are creating quite the buzz.

The new alternate uniform combination that feels like an NFL color rush for Wisconsin's week 1 game against Notre Dame has caused quite the stir. Fans are truly divided on whether they love it or hate it. Seems like more on the "gross" side of the equation, but there are plenty that think the chrome with the red helmets and all red uniforms is a "fire" combination.

One former Notre Dame quarterback and now media personality, Malik Zaire, seems to agree with the latter Badger fans. He posted on X that he thinks the Wisconsin uniform is actually better than the Notre Dame one. He said, "Say it ain't so?!" with a sad face emoji. He may be breaking the mold of the average Notre Dame fan as well as the average Wisconsin fan. Plenty of Irish fans are weighing in on the discussion, not pleased with their own uniforms, but disrespecting the Wisconsin one more."At least ours is better than the Badgers."

Zaire likes the Badger uniforms more than the Notre Dame ones. He's not the only prominent person weighing in on love for Wisconsin's uniform. And maybe the most important opinion hasn't been fully considered. But first, Zaire's post:

The opinions that matter the most and one of the most important reasons that uniform combinations even have a bearing is the players. Either current players or future players. Oregon proved years ago that the ugly combinations are often loved by recruits and current players. The crazy alternates also do well with sales. People love the novelty of the flashy uniforms, even if they are against the grain.

The players loved it. There's a video going around on social media of the current Wisconsin players reacting to the alternate jersey, and the team literally loses its mind. Mason Posa is running around the room, high-fiving people. That reaction may have sold fans who weren't quite sold or were on the fence, and for the biggest haters, it may have softened it a little.

The Wisconsin Badgers don't typically play well in alternate combinations, but then again, Wisconsin hasn't played well in any combination in the last few years. However, the red helmets with the motion W are undefeated. So if you are into that sort of thing, this may be something you take note of.

At the end of the day, the uniforms are doing what they were intended to do: create a buzz. Get people talking, spending money, and clashing over sports. It worked; the internet is a mixed bag of reviews with this uniform. Yet, one former Notre Dame player admits they may actually be better than what Notre Dame will be wearing, even if many Wisconsin fans hate them.
