Wisconsin fans were quick to hate the new jerseys, but this changes things

Maybe the jerseys aren't all that bad.

The Wisconsin Badgers jersey was leaked yesterday for Week 1 against Notre Dame, and fans were not pleased. It was received with overwhelming negative attention among Badger fans. There may have been a few people who were cautioning the fanbase to wait to see how it all looked together, but those voices were few and far between. Now that the uniform has been fully released, the reaction is more mixed. There is still plenty of hate towards the uniforms, especially the silver with the red. But there are some that like it.

If you had to guess based on social media comments alone, the vast majority are still hating on the new jerseys. Wisconsin fans are mostly purists, and rightfully so, silver/gray/chrome or whatever you want to call it is not on the color palette for the Badgers. Red and gray are the Ohio State Buckeyes, and that seems to be where a lot of the disdain lies. There's also the reality that Under Armor has typically underperformed since inking a deal with them.

There is one redeeming quality to the uniform, and it's the helmets. All red helmets typically have an appeal among us Wisconsin fans. And Zach Heilprin reminded everyone that a red Wisconsin helmet with a motion W on it is undefeated. That helmet combo is now 7-0 lifetime. That may have saved this uniform, and if Wisconsin beats Notre Dame week 1, this uniform may need to be part of the regular rotation at least until the luck dries up.

Besides the fact that the helmets are undefeated, the uniform does have a bit more appeal than just the jersey itself. The jersey itself is pretty hard to look at, but when you combine it with all red pants and helmets, it looks a little bit different. Has a different appreciation for it. It almost feels like an NFL color rush uniform. This also comes with plenty of love and hate among NFL fans.

Wisconsin was also quick to put out a social media post about how the silver/chrome in the jersey is "inspired by the Lombardi trophy." That was a good PR move by the Badgers, as that was where the majority of the frustration lay. However, it feels like Under Armor simply wanted a chrome-looking jersey, and someone had to swoop in later and be like, 'What else is silver? We need Wisconsin fans to like it...oh, what about the Lombardi Trophy?!'

At the end of the day, it is what it is, companies design these to make more money and we live in a world full of jersey combinations and fans will not always love it. Yet, if there is some magic in all the red helmets with the motion W, and it brings a huge Week 1 upset, I think fans will love the uniform in the end.
