Daniel Freitag came to Madison last season as one of Wisconsin's highest rated recruits of all-time for the Badgers. He is listed by 24/7 currently as the 16th highest recruit to commit to Wisconsin. However, it just didn't click for him while playing for the Badgers, he didn't see many minutes and became buried on the depth chart.
He then had a candid conversation with Wisconsin's head coach, Greg Gard, who basically told him that his role wouldn't be changing next season. There became a mutal parting of ways after that point and Freitag hit the transfer portal looking for a new destination.
The hard part for Freitag is that, while he was a very promising high school recruit, his lack of success in college didn't bring him high-major offers or at least ones that enticed him enough, which is why he has found a new home in Buffalo.

Daniel Freitag has committed to play at the University of Buffalo
Daniel Freitag will get a new start at Buffalo and a pretty immediate chance to prove himself at the college level. This is exactly the type of opportunity he was looking for and one that seems to suit him well. Wisconsin fans will be looking to see if something clicks for him in Buffalo.
Freitag has the talent and the athleticism and it truly may have been a poor fit in Wisconsin. The chance to go somewhere else, find a better fit, and create a new journey is going to be the story of Daniel Freitag now.
For Wisconsin, he played in only 14 games, averaging 2 minutes, per game scoring 0.1 points, 0.3 rebounds, and 0.2 assists. Shooting a forgettable 9.1% from the field. It's a statline he is hoping to throw into the rearview mirror as he begins his career all over again in Buffalo.
