After playing just 34 snaps for the Badgers, quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. unsurprisingly entered the transfer portal. He was supposed to provide stability to the position for Wisconsin, but an injury kept him out for nearly the entire season. Now, he's headed to the east coast where he may find even more drama.

On3 has reported that Edwards Jr. has committed to Bill Belichick and the North Carolina Tar Heels, where he'll compete for the starting job with incumbent starter Gio Lopez.

While Edwards' time in Wisconsin certainly wasn't without oddities, he may find an even more unusual situation at North Carolina. Bill Belichick adds so much more intrigue and drama to the situation, and if he wasn't ready for the scrutiny at Wisconsin, he may fall on his face with it in North Carolina.

While his time in Madison was rocky at best, Edwards Jr. will now head to a program that often makes headlines for reasons beyond football. Whether its rumors surrounding Belichick bolting for the NFL, or his personal life, theres always something to talk about in Chapel Hill. It will be Edwards' fourth school after spending time at Wake Forest, Maryland and Wisconsin.

Edwards used a medical redshirt to play a final season for the Tar Heels, but there's no guarentee he'll be the starter. Gio Lopez, who will return for 2026, passed for 1,747 yards and 10 touchdowns to five interceptions in 2025 for North Carolina.

With Edwards Jr. now gone, Luke Fickell and the Badgers have turned their attention to former Old Dominion quarterback Colton Joseph, who committed to the Badgers this weekend. He's a true dual-threat quarterback who threw for 2,624 yards and rushed for another 1,007.
