It feels like no more than a couple of hours can go by without Wisconsin football landing another commitment via the transfer portal. This time, it's more help for the defensive line in the form of a 6-3, 300-pound monster ready to work in the trenches.
That'd be Tennessee Martin defensive lineman Charles Perkins. On Monday afternoon, Perkins took to social media to announce that he'll indeed be making the move to Madison to continue his college career. With Perkins on board, he joins quarterback Danny O'Neil and defensive lineman Corey Walker in announcing for Wisconsin on Monday:
Tennessee Martin DT Charles Perkins has committed to Wisconsin
Perkins burst onto the scene in the FCS in 2023, taking home freshman All-American honors after he posted 24 total tackles and four sacks. He was a force on defense and opposing offensive linemen had a nightmare of a time preventing him from putting pressure on a quarterback.
Fast forward to this past season and Perkins was once again strong, finishing with 40 total tackles and 6.5 sacks. He decided that he wanted to enter the transfer portal and shortly after the Badgers and Fickell decided to put a scholarship on the table, Perkins decided he wanted to play in the Big Ten.
This is simply even more good news for Fickell and his recruiting efforts. It's also another key piece for the defensive line. As we mentioned above, prior to Perkins committing to UW, the Badgers landed fellow DL Walker. Over the weekend too, Tulane DL Parker Petersen committed to Wisconsin.
The Badgers indeed have been making a ton of noise by landing transfer players and they're surely not done. On both sides of the ball, we could end up seeing more exciting news for Fickell and his coaches. With the way things have been looking for the Badgers, another new commit could be on the way soon - you just never know right now.
