This offseason, there's been a massive change to the quarterbacks room for Wisconsin. Among the players deciding to leave town includes former 4-star signee Mabrey Mettauer, who knew he was going to have an uphill climb to see playing time in Madison.

Things were only made tougher for him when the team signed Carter Smith as a member of the 2025 class. Mettauer decided to enter the transfer portal and he has found a new home. He'll be making the move from Wisconsin to Texas, as he announced on Sunday night that he has committed to Sam Houston State.

While at first this might seem like a bit of a random destination for Mettauer to continue his college career, it isn't. Keep in mind that recently fired Wisconsin offensive coordinator Phil Longo has taken over as the new head coach at Sam Houston State.

Mettauer and Longo had a close relationship, so the two reuniting once again makes plenty of sense. When Mettauer signed with the Badgers, plenty of people were excited about his future with the team, but things didn't work out for him the way he had planned. Now, he'll look to see if he can succeed under Longo, this time at Sam Houston State.

Only time will tell if Mettauer ends up winning the starting job for Longo in 2025, but we do know Wisconsin will have a new starter for sure. With Tyler Van Dyke and Braedyn Locke (Arizona) transferring, it will be a battle between Billy Edwards Jr. and Danny O'Neil.

Edwards is the early favorite, as he has the experience advantage over O'Neil. Soon enough we'll find out who takes the QB1 spot, but now Wisconsin fans have some reasons to follow Sam Houston State with Longo and Mettauer joining forces.
