There's some big Wisconsin volleyball news out, with a former player stepping into collegiate coaching. Creighton Volleyball announced the hiring of former Wisconsin setter Izzy Ashburn today. Creighton is turning to Ashburn as an assistant coach with an emphasis on recruiting coordination.
Izzy Ashburn hired by Creighton to be an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator
Ashburn will be stepping into this role that current Creighton head coach Brian Rosen vacated. When he became the head coach on April 6th after being the assistant coach, he had a spot to fill. After finding the best candidate for the job, he went with a homerun hire in Ashburn. Rosen sounds thrilled in the press release by Creighton:
"As an athlete, I love her story of taking on any role thrown her way and working tirelessly to become the captain and starting setter at Wisconsin. She knows what it takes to be successful and compete for the goals we are chasing here at Creighton. Her championship pedigree and recent coaching experience at the highest levels will allow her to make an immediate impact on our setter group and team as a whole. Izzy is an incredible relationship builder and embodies our Creighton Culture. She will help us continue to bring top student-athletes into our program."Brian Rosen (Creighton Athletics)
Ashburn has been coaching since her Wisconsin days for Indy Ignite in the Pro Volleyball Federation.
As a Wisconsin volleyball star, Ashburn is a very decorated Badger player. She currently has multiple career records: Aces with 187, matches played with 151, and sets played with 527. She helped Wisconsin reach the Final Four in every season she played for the Badgers. She also was instrumental in Wisconsin's first-ever national title in volleyball in 2021.
This is a big-time hire for Creighton and an exciting step into collegiate coaching for a former Badger great.
