UPDATE: Team spokesperson has said, "We have not ruled [Dilin Jones] out for the year."

Starting running back Dilin Jones left last week's game against Ohio State due to injury and was listed as out ahead of the game today. During the first quarter of the Wisconsin vs. Oregon game, FS1 announcer Tim Brando just casually dropped terrible news that he's actually out for the entire season, which would be brand new information to everyone, including the beat reporters.

The running game this season has leaned on Jones even though it hasn't been all that successful, mainly due to offensive line issues and play-calling. However, he is their best back and most explosive runner. He emerged in the offseason as the top runner with Darrion Dupree as the second ball carrier to get touches.

Dupree is also out against Oregon as he, like Jones, suffered an injury last week against the Buckeyes. Against Oregon, it's been mostly Gideon Ituka. Through the first quarter, he's shown explosion and even helped the Badgers get out of their own endzone when a punt was downed at the 1-yard line.

While Ituka has shown that he can handle the rock, and this offense hasn't shown any promise with or without Jones, it's still a major blow to the program and the running back room. It's also another example of a season and a program that's been littered with injuries since Luke Fickell arrived.

This week was especially terrible in terms of injury, as 17 players were listed as out, with four listed as questionable two hours before the first kick. It's another example of how this season has derailed in more ways than just losses on the field. It's brutal, and losing Jones is rough.
