The Duke Blue Devils just received a crystal ball to land Kager Knueppel from Jon McNamara. It doesn't come as a huge surprise to Badger fans who have followed the Knueppel family from Kon's days. However, there was some hope that Kager would give Wisconsin more of a chance than Kon did and yet it appears that it truly may be the opposite.

Kager seems to be paying less attention to the Badgers lately, and it's another strikeout for Greg Gard, not only with an in-state player but also with the Knueppel family. Might as well build a Knueppel to Duke pipeline and just not even worry about the other Knueppels even coming behind Kager and Kon.

The writing was on the wall when Duke came calling for Kager Knueppel

Literally yesterday, Joe Tipton of On3.com dropped a Kager quote that read, "It’s not just 100% Duke. It’s my own path, so I’ll see other schools and have interest in them." Yet the update featured a graphic of Michigan, Purdue, and Duke. No mention of Wisconsin and Badger fans were quick to point out that Knueppel would be a Blue Devil no matter what he just said in the quote.

The reality is the Knueppel family has been very proud to send Kon to Duke, and if Jon Scheyer comes around recruiting any of the others, it would be a shock to see any Knueppel go anywhere else. At this point, every Knueppel down the list should be considered a Duke lean. It just is what it is.

There was some hope early on, but as Kager continued to pick up steam in high school and dominate the AAU circuit and Duke came calling, it was over. Sure, Greg Gard strikes out again with the Knueppels, but this one bites a lot less, considering it felt over as soon as Duke showed up.

It is what it is, but it is a recruiting blow that Gard continues to have to navigate.
