You've got to feel for the Wisconsin Badgers football seniors. On Friday, that group celebrated Senior Day, but things didn't go to plan, with Minnesota posting a 24-7 at Camp Randall Stadium. Emotions were running high after the final whistle, with plenty of sad faces.
For Wisconsin defensive back Hunter Wohler, it wasn't the end to his career he was hoping for. The Badgers were hoping to take down the Golden Gophers to extend the program's impressive bowl streak, but those efforts fell short.
The time on campus flew by for Wohler, and he enjoyed every minute of representing the university while he was in Madison. When asked about what everything meant to him, Wohler delivered an emotional response. Fans are going to love this:
Hunter Wohler gave his everything to the Wisconsin Badgers
In today's college football landscape, it's so easy for players to enter the transfer portal whenever they want and jump ship when things aren't going easy. However, Wohler never even thought about that, as he wanted to do his best to try and get the program back on the right track.
Last season, Wisconsin went 7-5 during the regular season, but then lost a heartbreaker to LSU in its bowl game to finish 7-6 overall. Then this fall, the Badgers opened things up at 5-2, but then for the first time since 1991, a five-game losing streak was posted.
It was the worst finish to the campaign possible, which has a lot of people calling for Luke Fickell to be fired. That's not going to happen, as his buyout is around $40 million. Fickell should get at least one more season, but major improvements need to be posted.
Unfortunately for Wohler and the other seniors in town, they won't be around to try and help things be pushed forward in '25. Yes, there were some lean years, but Wohler wouldn't trade it for anything. He has nothing but love for Wisconsin and that's never going to change.
