There's an absolute circus following John Blackwell's transfer portal recruitment. Coaches are flying across the country to talk with him; he's leaning into one school but backing away from another. Only to pick up steam with that school again. He's flexing trophies from the 1960s. It's wild. Yet, there's one nugget from John Blackwell recently that matters a ton for Wisconsin's next season team.
It seems as if he was part of those who helped convince Trey Autry to come to Wisconsin. Even though Blackwell is on his superstar transfer tour of the top NIL teams, he told Autry, "Go to Wisconsin!" That's a huge boost from Blackwell, still giving out assists for Wisconsin scores.
The #Badgers got an assist from Nick Boyd and John Blackwell as they were recruiting George Washington transfer Trey Autry:

Trey Autry said both Nick Boyd and John Blackwell told him to go to Wisconsin

Autry is a sharpshooter from George Washington who may end up filling the shoes that Blackwell left. Not in the same capacity, but he truly may have his spot in the starting lineup as the 2-guard or shooting guard. Autry talked to both Boyd and Blackwell and said they spoke very highly of Wisconsin and Greg Gard.
He called Boyd and Blackwell his close friends and someone he could simply call to ask for advice. In this case, it was about Wisconsin, and whether becoming a Badger is the move out of the transfer portal. Both gave him the green light to come to Wisconsin.
It's hard to know if Gard is done in the portal after his latest additions. He has 12 players, and they are balanced pretty nicely between four guards, four wings, and four bigs. There are two more open roster spots, but Gard has said in the past that he doesn't always plan to fill the cupboard, preferring a smaller team where everyone has a clear role.
For now, it's good to see Blackwell finding time on his tour to help get Wisconsin another guard to presumably take his place.
