The college basketball landscape has changed so drastically that players rarely play with each other for multiple years. Players transfer from place to place and often play for three or four colleges before they lose their eligibility. There are a few that stick around and become duos, tandems, and units. Yet, even in all that shuffling, the best teams find a way to grow close even in a short time. That seems to be true for this season's Wisconsin Badgers.
Xavier Amos transferred from Northern Illinois last offseason but slowly became an important role player for the Badgers. He also became friends with his teammates. As he enters his fourth season of college basketball, Amos decided to jump back into the transfer portal, and John Blackwell is sad to see him go.

John Blackwell tells Xavier Amos on social media that he's going to miss him
John Blackwell jumped on X shortly after the announcement was made that Amos would be jumping in the portal and sent a simple message, "Imma miss u my boy." Which confirms pretty conclusively that Amos is off to new places with no chance to return.
Blackwell himself is testing the NBA Draft waters, but unless he gets a really high grade, he plans to play another year for the Badgers. This message to Amos actually helps support that theory. He is most likely going to be in Wisconsin for at least another year, as he didn't post about going to the NBA with the "I'm going to miss you " but instead with a quoted post of Amos transferring.
Amos played a solid role last season, playing 9.7 minutes a game for the Badgers. He helped provide depth off the bench for Greg Gard. However, Amos averaged over 30 minutes a game in the previous season at Northern Illinois and probably wants to find another opportunity like that. If he stayed in Wisconsin, he would be a similar depth piece next year, too.
