As most of you who follow recruiting pretty closely know by now, a big-time prospect is making his way to Madison next weekend. That's right, four-star quarterback Carter Smith has locked in his official visit with the Wisconsin Badgers for the game against No. 1 Oregon.

Head coach Luke Fickell is hoping that a head-turning visit could lead to the standout signal-caller shutting down his recruitment for the second time, this time in favor of the Badgers. Smith was previously committed to Michigan, but he backed off his pledge not long ago.

So, does Wisconsin have a great chance to land his services? On3Sports' Steve Wiltfong seems to think so. Recently, Wiltfong put in his predictions for some of the top uncommitted prospects in the country, and he has Smith picking the Badgers when it's time to announce his final decision. It goes without saying, but this would be a monster get for the program:

Will 4-star QB Carter Smith end up committing to Wisconsin?

There's still a lot of time until the Early Signing Period gets here, but Wiltfong indeed is rocking with Wisconsin to land Smith. Other programs are still in the mix, though, including Penn State, Utah, Clemson, Florida State and others.

Wisconsin already has a QB commit for 2025 in Landyn Locke, but as we've written about before, Smith is the higher-ranked prospect with a much higher ceiling. He'd also be a splash addition for Fickell's class this late in the game.

It hasn't been a year to remember on the gridiron for Fickell, as the Badgers are 5-4 on the season following recent losses to Penn State and Iowa. The loss to the Hawkeyes still has plenty of people down in the dumps. However, Wisconsin is one of the most storied programs in the Big Ten. Fickell can remind everyone of that by winning this battle for Smith - we sure hope he does.
