The best winter portal transfer addition, according to expert rankings, was Tanner Koziol, a tight end from Ball State. A big-time pass-catching tight end that would have fit nicely into new offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes' system. However, it was quickly determined that the fit was terrible, and head coach Luke Fickell seemed to have some pointed words about it without ever mentioning Koziol's name.

Since that point, Fickell has been chasing another tight end to fill the role he imagined for Koziol. Lance Mason is still an option and recently visited the Badgers this last week. However, another option has emerged in Boden Groen from Rice.

Boden Groen a transfer from Rice University is visiting the Wisconsin Badgers

Boden Groen had an exceptional sophomore campaign two years ago when he caught 39 passes for 383 yards and three touchdowns. Last year was a bit less impressive, with 12 catches for 94 yards and no touchdowns. However, he may be a better fit for the Badgers because he's a good and willing pass-catcher but also helpful in the run-blocking schemes.

This is precisely what Fickell and Grimes were missing in Koziol. They need a pass-catching tight end who is also willing to run block and even set an edge or complete a screen for other receivers. There needs to be grittiness and toughness in the new scheme.

Groen is a good option for both of those things, but also as a veteran presence going into his senior season, having only played at one other school, Rice. He's solid, consistent, and not chasing the next greatest stat.

The visit only continues to show Wisconsin fans that Luke Fickell and Wisconsin are still not settled with the current tight ends on the roster. Whether it be Mason or Goen, Fickell would love to add one more impact player at the position.
