The transfer portal is officially open and madness is starting to ensue. Double-digit Wisconsin football players have announced their intentions to leave Madison, but this also means that head coach Luke Fickell is going to be working overtime to bring in new players.
Fickell just put the finishing touches on his 2025 recruiting class for high school prospects, but his focus is now going to be shifted to landing players with college experience. Could standout Louisville pass-rusher Mason Reiger end up being a future Badger?
On Monday morning, the 6-4, 260-pounder took to social media to announce that he has officially been offered by the Wisconsin staff. More offers are sure to be going out soon, but with the need for help in going after opposing quarterbacks, a tender being put on the table for Reiger makes a ton of sense.
Mason Reiger will reportedly take an official visit to Wisconsin this weekend
In addition to the offer, reporter Dillon Graff said that Reiger is going to be in Madison this weekend for an official visit. This tells you that Fickell and Co. are working fast to try and land the veteran defensive end.
Reiger first joined Louisville in 2021, making an impact for three seasons with the Cardinals. In 2023, Reiger had his best campaign yet, posting 22 total tackles and five sacks in 10 games. Unfortunately, he underwent offseason knee surgery and was forced to miss the entire 2024 campaign.
About a week ago, Reiger announced that he was going to be entering the portal. With him working his tail off in his rehab to make sure he's ready for next season, he's also going to be looking for a new place to call home.
The serious knee injury is a concern, but Reiger is on the comeback trail and he was a stud defensive lineman for Louisville when healthy. Fickell sees the potential in him, which is why he's hoping Reiger will end up suiting up for him next fall.
