The Wisconsin Badgers are set to kick off a pivotal 2026, and one of the main returners is star true sophomore linebacker Mason Posa. Last year, he came out of nowhere as one of the best defensive players for the Badgers as a true freshman, and the way he played, spoke, and carried himself endeared him to Wisconsin fans immediately.
Posa speaks about Wisconsin like he's been a Badger his whole life, and now he's proving it with a financial investment in Madison restaurant Mikies Dairy Bar, according to the Wisconsin State Journal and Colten Barholomew. He was recruited out of Albuquerque, New Mexico, yet his heart immediately became Madison through and through. He's only been on the team one season, yet he's already seen as a Badger for life, and now he proves his loyalty and fixture with Wisconsin by putting his money where his mouth is.

The story really has three parts. The first is that Posa proves his loyalty and his Badger investment not just with his words. He's done a great job of speaking about how he wants to be one of the best Badgers to ever play at Wisconsin, but now he's putting money on it.
He doesn't plan to go anywhere, even though many others of his caliber as a true freshman would have bailed so fast on a four-win season and transferred to a new program. Posa didn't; he helped, and his help created a new culture at the Badgers.
The second part is that Posa is doing something athletes have never really been able to do until after college. He's got money thanks to NIL and revenue share, and he's putting it to work through ownership. This is a remarkable development in NIL and college athletics: that a player can even do something of this caliber when just a handful of years ago most athletes could barely afford Top Ramen.

The third part and a new angle that has to be considered is that Posa is already joining hands with a Wisconsin Badger legend. He puts money down on Mickies Dairy Bar alongside Joe Thomas, one of the best Badgers to ever step foot on campus.
Thomas is a player that never really left the community; he continued to pour his heart into Wisconsin athletics when he was in the NFL and even after he retired. Thomas has already proven he's a legend, and buying a stake in a local restaurant isn't as surprising, but throw Posa in the mix, and it's remarkable.
Mason Posa has already put himself in the Joe Thomas conversation. Not that he's arrived there yet, but the fact that he's putting both his community investment and play on the field for Wisconsin before the fans is incredible, and fans really should be shouting "Badger for Life!"
