Cincinnati quarterback Brendan Sorsby is planning to enter the transfer portal when it opens on January 2nd. He's a dynamic veteran quarterback who can sling the rock but also run as a feature to his offensive game. His decision to transfer will also be influenced by the feedback he receives from the NFL, as his ultimate goal is to reach the league.

He's a star and would fit seamlessly into Jeff Grimes' offense, bringing veteran savvy that could immediately put Wisconsin back on the map. Here's why Luke Fickell should go after Sorsby:

Sorsby was electric in his two seasons for Cincinnati, with over 2,800 passing yards in both seasons and over 1,000 yards on the ground. He also had 27 passing touchdowns in 2025 with nine rushing touchdowns. He has NFL tools and could go, but will most likely have one more year in college. He only had five interceptions and took only seven sacks this season.

He also was great in his sophomore season at Indiana. He played less and was featured in a more of a speciality role but he had over 1,000 yards passing and 286 yards rushing.

Sorsby is going to be expensive, there's no doubt, and there may be a bidding war. Many are already assuming that Texas Tech or one of the other major spenders with no end to the depth of their pockets will grab him. However, Luke Fickell has to try, and if there really is a bigger investment into the program, one of the places to spend it will need to be at the quarterback position.

Sorsby is a player who would fit with exactly what Jeff Grimes is trying to do. Have wrinkles in the offense where the quarterback can sling it, but also run it. That has veteran ability to take care of the football. He could build an impressive playbook around Sorsby, and if the Badgers can build a top-notch offensive line around him, the Badgers could truly be back.
