After going undrafted in the 2026 NBA Draft, former Wisconsin Badger Nick Boyd has officially kicked off his NBA tenure, signing with the Golden State Warriors. The contents of the deal itself are still relatively unknown, as there has not yet been an official report as to what type of contract Boyd has signed.

With that said, odds are Boyd did not land himself a standard deal, given the time it took him to sign after the draft concluded. More than likely, he landed either an Exhibit 10 deal or a Summer League contract, as most guys who receive two-way deals make that official directly following the draft.

Nonetheless, this is still a huge moment for the 25-year-old, who not too long ago was sitting on the bench of a non-power-four school. Fast forward to today and he is one of the more accomplished guards of the 2020s in college basketball and is headed to the NBA to further realize his dreams.

Outlook

The path for Boyd to actually find his way onto an NBA court anytime soon is quite a long shot. His age, lack of size and unideal playmaking feel don't exactly make him the most appealing backup guard, but his talent alone will likely give him a chance.

Boyd will be given an opportunity to prove himself in Summer League, a spot in which he will likely have a hefty role. Both of the Warriors' draft selections this year were forwards, meaning Boyd won't have to compete much with them for minutes. The truest competitor for backcourt minutes will likely be second-year guard LJ Cryer, who has built up a positive reputation within the Golden State organization.

With that said, the Warriors wouldn't have signed Boyd if they didn't believe in him in some shape or form, creating hope that he can carve himself out a spot. It's no guarantee, as at the end of the day, Golden State is still likely going to be in hot pursuit of an NBA championship next season. But, if Boyd continues to do what he has done at every step prior to the league, there is a good chance that he ends up on an NBA roster come training camp next fall.
