It's been hard to keep track of which Wisconsin football players have entered the transfer portal and which transfers have committed to play for head coach Luke Fickell and his staff. Earlier this week, plenty of eyebrows were raised when star wideout Will Pauling announced he was leaving town.
This was no question a massive bummer for fans, as Pauling posted some memorable games for the Badgers. While some new commits have been posted for Fickell, people are still talking about the loss of Pauling. It was clearly a tough decision for him too, as he posted an emotional message on social media for Wisconsin supporters everywhere to see:
Wisconsin WR Will Pauling was quite emotional about transferring
"After much prayer, conversation, and thoughtful consideration, I have decided to enter the transfer portal as a graduate transfer," Pauling said. "My time in Madison has been an incredible blessing. I've built lifelong relationships, grown tremendously in my faith and as a player, and experienced moments I will cherish forever."
Pauling also went on to thank Fickell for his guidance. Keep in mind that Pauling first joined the Badgers in 2023 - he spent the previous two seasons with Fickell at the University of Cincinnati, so the two built a strong bond over four seasons.
Now, though, Pauling is ready to find a new place to call home. He has one season of eligibility left. As for the Wisconsin offense, losing Pauling and CJ Williams is not what people expected, but some help has already arrived via the portal.
On Thursday, Ohio State transfer Jayden Ballard committed to UW. Then on Friday, FCS All-American Mark Hamper followed suit, committing to the Badgers following his official visit. Hamper was a stud for Idaho this past campaign, finishing with 48 receptions for 966 yards and six touchdowns. Soon enough, we'll find out where Pauling will be playing next, but it's a bit sad knowing his days in Madison are over.
