The Wisconsin WR1 debate is over, and even Badgers social media seem to be saying so

When Eugene Hilton Jr. tried to transfer but was pulled back into the fold by Luke Fickell and Jeff Grimes, it was an obvious sign that the coaches had a big plan for the young wide receiver. He also came back with the full intention of being a go-to guy. There was a clear opportunity in front of him to become the top wide-out, and even when Fickell added more receivers to the roster, Hilton was a guy to watch.

There was early talk about Chris Brooks Jr. being the top dog and WR1. The quotes were coming out about how different he looks and how he's ready to assume the spot. Hilton essentially said, 'not so fast.' Now, after a huge day at practice, media members are declaring the race over; Hilton has won the job. The Wisconsin social media team is also indicating this is true. Or at least, it seems to be.

Hilton has a ton of talent; he truly may be the most talented receiver on the roster. He was just a true freshman last year, so it was hard for him to earn the reps and really even trust himself to be the guy. Now, as a sophomore, it sure seems like he wants the ball.

It also appears that the Wisconsin social team is signaling something special in their latest post. The team put together a compilation of highlights with Colton Joseph throwing darts to Eugene Hilton Jr., and the caption was "Full bars for this connection." The timing is curious, since it's the day that every media member and their mother is talking about Hilton as the WR1. But the caption adds fuel to the fire; it's not simply a highlight reel; it's the social team highlighting the chemistry.

This feels pretty telling. Yet, when all is said and done, it feels right. The eye test tells us that Hilton looks the part and is living into the part. The clips are insane; there's clear chemistry with Joseph, and he's a player who will only get better with more and more reps.

Sure, Brooks and even Jaylon Domingeaux will have something to say about this and will continue to fight for the spot, but that's the competition that Wisconsin needs and is desperate for. We want Brooks to push Hilton for the spot, and we want Hilton to push Brooks for the spot. It may not be all set in stone, and with playmakers, you can ride the hot hand.

Clip No. 4 shows that Hilton was getting the end around. For Grimes, he often uses those to disguise and trick, but also to give a touch to a dynamic player. For Hilton, this is only good news and another example of how, even in fall camp, there's trust being built.

It's early, and things could change by camp but Hilton seems to be the clear cut, WR1 for Wisconsin.
