There is one position group that stands above the rest as the Badgers head into the season. You could argue that other position groups, like the offensive line headlined by Riley Mahlman, or even the running back room, with some impressive depth, are equally impressive. However, there's a clear top unit that's among the best in the Big Ten, and that's the defensive backs and safeties, aka the secondary.

There's a caveat here, however: if Nyzier Fourqurean returns for 2025, then it's not even close, as that would put four of Wisconsin's best players in the same position unit. You have Ricardo Hallman and Nyzier Fourqurean as the two outside defensive backs, and the safeties are Preston Zachman and Austin Brown. That's four of arguably the top five players on the team.

The Wisconsin Badgers boast one of the best secondaries in the Big Ten

You can round out the group with D'Yoni Hill and Geimere Latimer, which really adds to the depth. After this, there is a bit of a youth and inexperience problem on the depth chart. However, there's a lot of confidence from the coaching staff in young players like Matthew Traynor, Remington Moss, and Raphael Dunn.

It would also be no surprise to see other players emerge in this position group. Wisconsin has had solid depth there for a few years.

While the Badgers will miss standout leader and tackle-machine Hunter Wohler, the secondary unit shouldn't miss a beat next year. There's even an argument to be made that they could be even better with all the young depth that now has experience and time in the system.

There are many question marks on the roster for next year, but the secondary isn't one of them. That group will come into the season and be rated as the best position group on the team.
